Weber Bb Flugel - Berliner Valves  c.1875

This oval shaped Flugel is equipped with short stroke "Berlin Valves"  or "Berliner Pumpen" which were invented in 1835 and were common in European instruments of the mid 1800s. The Berliner valves have single tubular pistons with the casing forming no part of the windway. A coiled spring is placed below the valve, as in modern valve systems.  These type of valves are easily identified by the short tube length and that the four entry and exit tubes are all at the same level,

This Flugel is marked "A. Weber - Zittau".  Carl  August Weber (b. 1821) produced Brass Instruments in Loubau Germany in 1862 and later in Zittau.  This horn has been repatriated to a very persuesive collector in Germany.
