Contrebasse Trompette en Mi-b c.1900

This is unusual helicon shaped "Contrebasse Trompette" made by a P. Naudine in Paris c.1900. This horn represents the largest of a series of natural fanfare instruments used primarily by a mounted cavalry band and is the only one in a helicon shape. It is conical in shape over its entire length and has 4 coils. This series of cavalry fanfare instruments were made in various sizes eg: trumpets, altos and bass horns - all in the key of "Mi flat" (Eb).  A  Couesnon catalog of the period  lists the entire series (see below).
