Roman Cornu (Replica)  c.200AD

This Roman Cornu was certainly not used during the  ceremony for Cleopatra's arrival in Rome in 200AD, but it might have been used for Elizabeth Taylor's grand arrival in the movie of the same name!!!  The Cornu is a simple conical horn made of brass or copper using a cup mouthpiece and carried on the shoulder. Cornus were used primarily for ceremonial entrances or during military engagements. This replica has a loud and clear trumpet-like sound.  Scroll down for a painting showing cornu's in action!
