Lehnert Bb Cornet  c.1865

This is a fully restored Bb cornet made by Henry (Heinrich) G. Lehnert. Lehnert came to the USA from Frieberg in 1860 and for a time worked for Graves. He moved to  Philadelphia about 1865. He is also known for  a shoulder carried bass horn. This cornet employs side action string operated rotary valves - necessitating that the horn be played in a horizontal position. The  hook on the bell is for  a finger on the left hand.  Despite it's age, this cornet still plays beautifully with a clear centered sound. The simple logo reads: LEHNERT  PHILA. in a circle.
