Wurlitzer Alto in Eb with Berliner Valves c.1865

This is an Alto Horn made by Rudolph Wurlitzer & Bros, Cincinnati Ohio c.1865.  Wurlitzer used "Berliner Pumpen" valves common in Europe - and in the the US during the Civil War Period. The horn plays in high pitch (A=454) as did most horns of the period.   One unusual feature on this horn is the waterkey on the tuning crook, which did not come into common use until after the Civil War.  This may have been added at a later date.  The bell inscription reads:
R..Wurlitzer & Bros.
