Lehnert Bb String Rotary Cornet   c.1865

This is an American string operated rotary valve Bb Cornet made by Henry J. .Lehnert durning the American Civil War (1861-1865).  The cornet is held flat when being played - with the valve key paddles articulated to operate the rotary valves on the bottom.  Note lack of water key- a feature common to instruments from this period
