Boosey & Co Cornet in Bb c.1881

This is a particularly well preserved Boosey and Co Bb Cornet in heavy silverplate.  The inscription on the bell reads:
Class A
(Distin TM)
Patent Light Valve
Boosey & Co
Makers
295 Regent St.
LONDON
26223

Based on a comparison to known Boosey instrument serial numbers, this  serial number 26223 dates the cornet to 1881 (Arnold Myers- Historic Brass Society Journal Vol 14, 2002). However, Langwill indicates that the Regent Street address was only used from 1893.  As with most Boosey instruments of this period, the 2nd valve carries the Distin tradmark and  a different serial number of 25112 (see below). The instrument likely played in high pitch when made, but the long leadpipe permits the cornet to play in modern pitch (A=440).
