Holton "New Proportions" Cornet in Bb / C   c.1912

Frank Holton was a trombonist in Sousa's Band from 1893-84. In 1885 he was in partnership with York as "York and Holton".   He started making brasswinds as Frank Holton & Co in 1907 in Chicago.   His brasswinds are noted for their superb quality of workmanship and superior tonality.   His 1910 he was awarded patent #970978 for his "New Proportions" Cornet.  In 1908-1912 he was in association with E.A. Couturier.  In 1918  he moved from Chicago to Elkhorn WI. and branched into woodwinds.

This unique and flexible Cornet is no exception.  It has a great centered tone and consistant with the period, comes with a 10 additional tuning crooks for:  High Bb; Low Bb; High C; Low C.  (Apologies to cornetists for sticking a trumpet mouthpiece in this great horn for photos!!)
