Lyon & Healy Bell-Forward Alto in Eb   c.1880

Lyon & Healy was initially established by George Washington Lyon and Patrick Joseph Healy 1n 1864 as a mid-western (Chicago) outlet for Distin. By 1900 they dominated the field of mail-order musical merchandising. In 1923 they set up the E,A Couturier Band Instrument  Company.  Most  L&H  instruments were imports, but some bear the inscrription L&H "Own Make" for horns made in the US by various makers.

The bell-forward alto configuration was mostly an American requirement.  Boosey also made a Bell Forward Eb Flugel for the American market.  This alto is in heavy nickel-chrome plating and plays very well.  Note the "Silver Piston" logo in the lower photo.
