Leland Baritone in Bb  c.1890

This a beautiful Baritone horn was made by Samual Reeves Leland & Son in Worcester Massachusetts  circa 1890. Leland  was a former pianoforte dealer music publisher and band leader who started making brass instruments in 1883. His son and successor Francis (Frank) Augustus continued expanding the firm through 1915.  Their line of instruments were called  "New Ideal".  It should be noted that Issac Fiske sold his factory in Worcester to Conn in 1887 and several of the Fiske workers reportedly went over th Leland factory.

Of particular interest in this horn is the amount of knurled decorative design in all of the ferrules and trim pieces.  The horn plays with a  clear centered tone and has a beautiful high end.  Scroll down for photos of the extraordinary trim.
