Distin Baritone in Bb  c.1893

Henry Distin was manufacturing brass instruments in London in 1858, under the inscription "Henry Distin, Maker". When the firm was purchased by Boosey and Son in 1868, the name was changed to Distin & Co., and changed again circa 1874 to Boosey & Son. In 1877 Distin moved to New York, once again under the name Henry Distin, Maker.  In 1882 moved again to Philadelphia. In 1891 he relocated to Williamsport PA.   When Henry Distin retired in 1890, the firm was called The Henry Distin Manufacturing Co., and was managed by Brua C. Keefer, Jr., son of the major stockholder. In 1909, the Keefer family purchased the remaining interest, and the name was changed to The Brua C. Keefer Mfg. co., whose production continued until about 1942. This baritone, (serial  10387), was made in Williamsport in 1883.  Distin instruments have always been of the highest quality and this baritone is no exception. The silver plating is still almost 100% (as is the tarnish!) . It plays with a sweet centered tone.  The bell and logo are inricately engraved.
