Bass Recorder in F  c. 1920

This is  a Bass Recorder in hand rubbed maple wood. This bass is equipped with a bocal (the metal pipe that connects the mouth to the recorder head). The bocal entrance is on the top of the cap; the cap then directs the air to the windway- a whistle-like opening with a sharp edge creating the vibrations resulting in musical notesAs with all recorders, breath support and air flow are crucial for best tone and response from bass recorders.  This Recorder is in the key of F  with F - F# offset double keys.  The double-padded key that covers two holes with the lower pad having a hole in it, is common to bass recorders with German fingering, (vs. baroque fingering). Both high and low B flats are played with the right hand first finger firmly on the hole key; B naturals (both high and low) are played with the lower key hole open.
