Box Serpent

This is a whimsical approach to building a serpent- normally a serpentine shaped wood instrument  covered by leather and used to play the lower registers in music of the 17th and 18th centuries. This particular instrument was made by Scott Hall, an energetic fellow in Florida, who loves to experiment making strange musical instruments. In this one, he built the box from several layers of marine plywood, with a sawn out serpent shaped cavity which increases in size from mouthpiece hole to bell hole. Unlike the circular conical hole ina real serpent, the hole in the box is rectangular.  Surprisingly, this box serpent has a clear basic note and harmonic. The 6 finger holes do not have any effect.
