Alexander Mainz Rotary Valve Trumpet c.1895 This is a side action rotary
valve (SARV) orchestral trumpet made in Germany near the
turn of the 20th century. It features a fourth rotary valve near
the water key which converts it from a Bb pitch to a A pitch. The
extra crook is replaces the crook with the change valve. As one can
see, the horn was is poor condition when acquired, but with the
attention of Dick Hanson in Massachusets, it was restored to its former
beauty.
The detail on the rotary valve caps is typical of the superb work of the Gebe Alexander Company. This trumpet was once tried by Ronnie Romm formerly of the Canadian Brass. He indicated it played sweetly with extremely fast action. It is now the primary instrument used by a symphonic trumpeter in Spain ![]() ![]() |
