German Pocket Trumpet  c.1910

This is a tiny "Pocket Trumpet" with rotary valves and mechanical linkage. It was probably made in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. Pocket Trumpets (or pocket cornets) have been popular since the mid-19th century as they allowed a musician to practice almost anywhere without having to lug an instrument case along. It is 9 inches long (without mouthpiece) with a 3 1/4 inch bell. It has the same tubing length and the same partials as a full size trumpet, but with a slightly softer sound.
