Vincent Bach  Bass Trumpet in C and Bb  c.1960

This is a beautiful Bass Trumpet made by Vincent Bach in Mount Vernon New York- just before he was bought out by Selmer.  The Bass Trumpet was never a widely popular instrument but it does have a unique sound with the pitch and timbre of a trombone and the sharper focus of a trumpet.  This horn  was originally made in C pitch but sleeves were added to tuning slides to lower the pitch to play in Bb.  Conn and Selmer made a few more of these- but none compared with the hand-crafted quality made by Vincent's Mt Vernon factory.

This great horn really needed to be played- and not merely displayed in my collection- so I reluctantly parted with it to a trombonist in Holland where is now being played in a jazz band!
