A 010
18 cent. Ceylon ArmoireThis
beautiful Armoire (or "Almirah" as its called in Ceylon) is made so it
can be easily dismantled for moving. The carved top and base sections
are separate as are the side, back and door panels. The base consists of
two drawers and two intricately carved legs with detailed "ball and
Claw" design. The top of the armoire, features a shell design
typical of the Dutch influence from the 16th century colonization of
the coastal towns. The wood is a teak-like hardwood indiginous to
the highlands of Ceylon (Sri Lanka today). There are two side
panels which have been craftily replaced by coconut tree wood!.
