Large Copper Bedouin
Cooking Pot
-19th c.This
is what you will need to boil up an entire animal for a
"Goat Grab" party out in the desert. Such pots were used regularly to
cook an entire sheep or goat - especially for special events like
weddings. The meat (including the head) was boiled with spices
until it almost fell off the bones, then served on an enormous platter
covered with saffron rice. The honored guest would always be
offered the eyes!!
This beautiful pot is made of solid hammered copper and features two heavy rings for lifting it out of the fire (usually with a wooden rod). It has a diametr of 21" and height of 12 ". The inside is tinned to avoid the metallic taste. It is a great decorative piece with an unique historical significance. Featured Sale Price $325 ![]() ![]() ![]() |
