This sabre was presented to  Lt. Waldo Sprague  in 1862 Sprague was  related to Phil Holcomb on his mother's side. The inscription reads:
Presented to
Lieut Waldo Sprague
17th Reg NYSV
by the
National Guard of Yonkers
1862
The 17th Regiment New York State  Volunteer Infantry was formed early in the war. The Blade is ornately inscribed with name Tiffany & Co. N.Y.  The sword was made by Collins & Co. Hartford Conn. The hilt and trim are brass and the scabbard is leather. ( in remarkably good condition!).  In researching his geneology a list of battles and movements of the 17th-and Waldo - has been found (Click here) He was badly injured in the 2nd battle of Bull Run.  He served as Adjutant from this time onwards.  Click here to see his personal Colt revolver wihch had all battles engraved on hilt!. The photo below apparently is Waldo in mufti with his top hat! See also Sprague'.s dress  sword awarded to him in 1893.
