This is a unique and rare
saddle cover designed to fit over a saddle- with cut areas to fit the
pommel. the stirrups and saddle back. It is thought
that this weaving was designed to be a wedding gift as the names of a
woman and a man: "Mumtaz"
and "Karim" are woven in
Arabic into the
pile along with the date - Higirah
1326 (1909AD).
This specific saddle carpet has been featured in at least two books on carpet design and is considered to be museum quality. For display purposes only- the saddle cover has been carefully sewn onto a kelim background to frame the saddle carpet and to facilitate hanging on the wall. There is some mild abrash in the black field. No repairs. One may note the mirab at the back of the carpet. As this carpet was used on top of a saddle- it could be taken off and perhaps used a travellers prayer carpet!! This
special carpet is offered for sale at
$2900
