090-Caucasian Chelarberd (Eagle) Kazak c.1880

ORIGIN:      Caucasian Kazak
GROUP:      Karabagh
STYLE:        Chelaberd
SIZE:          5'5" x7'4"
KNOTS        Turkish

This beautiful Caucasian pile carpet is commonly called an "Eagle Kazak" or Sunburst Kazak and is a ancient design that is still seen in modern carpets.  This carpet shows considerable wear with low pile in a few areas. The dark blue/black areas are particularly worn due to the ferrous oxide used in the dyes- which weakens the wool after 100 years.  As in many true tribals, the 'center' 'medallian is not in the center, and the designs at each end are of different sizes. There are a few well done repairs.  The carpet is a particularly good specimen of its type - with brilliant colors and fascinating tribal design characteristics. It is set up for hanging on the wall as a fine tapestry- which it is!

This carpet is valued at $4000-$5000  will sell: $3200
