This is a large Turkoman Beshir
double saddlebag decorated by a traditional, intricate and
colorful all-over kelim weaving. These bags were slung over a donkey's
back or over a camel as the nomadic people moved from one grazing area
to another. They would be used to carry any and all sorts of personal
objects . Please note the dark wool loops which are used to
secure each side of the bag. The loops are stuck through slots in the
bag face and then a stick or a wool rope is threaded through to
keep the contents safe. The loops can also be laced to eachother in a
sort of chain- and only the last one secured. Bags of this quality are
rarely seen,
