| The Kurds are historic
semi-nomadic and/or nomadic peoples of Persia (Iran) who date back thousands
of years. Kurdish carpets are woven throughout Persia, but more so in the
central northwestern mountainous regions. Although all were initially
from the same origin, the Kurds migrated to all areas of Iran and established
colonies helping to form a great portion of the population. They then formed
other tribes with different names, but their roots were still Kurdish.
A few major Kurdish -producing centers are Senneh, Bidjar, and the district
of Khamseh. This runner is a wonderful example of the tribal influence
in carpet design- with bird figures troughout the main red field and blue
borders supplemented with animals and flowers (see detail lower photo). |
