181-Persian Ardabil- Caucasian Design

ORIGIN:      Persian     GROUP:     Ardabil
STYLE:      Caucasian
 SIZE:          4'2"x 9'10"

KNOTS:        Persian  130KPSI
MATERIALS:  Wool pile on Cotton base

ARDABIL is a town in the northwestern Iranian province of Azerbaijan, in the Caucuses region. Ardabil is the center of Persian Kazak rugs. Ardabil rugs are similar to Caucasian rugs with predominantly geometric designs but differ by having motifs woven into them and tend to be lighter in their color use. Fine wool is used with tight good textured piles.  A cotton warp and weft make these Ardabils strong and enduring.

This superb contemporary carpet (c.1970) features two hexagontal motifs with creme fields covered with a geometric vines and central geometric figure. The main field is a dark blue/black with the same geometric vines with flowers. Corner designs accent this beautiful an intricate carpet. Borders are alternating geometric bows and flowers.
