Information Papers on Tribal Carpets

By the time Phil Holcomb moved to Bankok in 1989, he already had enough carpets to cover the floors in his apartment. But the collecting didn't stop and soon carpets were stacked up in the closet or hung on walls. Seeking out others with a similar malady, he soon found enough collectors similarly infected and we formed the Bangkok Carpet Collector's Club. The BCCC was informal group of carpet aficionados and serious collectors who found that from time to time they became victims of unscrupulous carpet dealers.   Several of us decided it would be most useful to learn more about carpets through sharing our collective knowledge and experiences in buying oriental carpets.   To make each meetings more meaningful, Phil agreed to prepare an "information paper" which would help summarize some of  the specific matters to be reviewed at a particular meeting (see topics below).

Since arriving in Florida in 1999, Phil has joined the Central Florida Carpet Society. It is worth noting that the members of both the BCCC and the CFCS always prefer the special warmth and uniqueness of tribal carpets over the more formal wool and silk "city" carpets of Iran.  Each of these beautiful tribals reflect the inherent native vision and dedicated workmanship of a nomadic individual who has spent the best part of one year of his or her life creating a true work of art.
