Phil's Carpet
Collection - Pile Carpets
I first fell in love with the
beauty of tribal carpets some 30 years ago when I was living in Saudi
Arabia. Since then, I have accumulated a very large collection and
fully intended to become a dealer when I retired. Hovever, due to a
back
injury I can no longer get down on the floor to roll carpets! In
order to share my treasures with other people with similar tastes, I
created this website. I especially treasure tribal carpets with
intricate designs, beautiful workmanship, and use of colors.
The carpets below represent only a small selection of my collection. Click on the thumbnails below to see larger photos and a narrative describing the origin, design, size, estimated age, construction methods and condition of the each carpet. I should note, however, that the definition of the origin and age of a carpet is an inexact science at best. If anyone has a question, a a correction, or requests for more details on a particular carpet, please feel free to send me an e-Mail. Please note that offers on any carpet in the collection will be seriously considered! For some interesting reading
background on
the history and identification of tribal carpets, please click on
the Information Papers
links to the left. Also, don't miss the flat woven (Kelim)
carpet section. Click on Featured Carpet
Sales for
special offers on Pile and Kelim carpets.
